Cam position sensor question..... 200 1990

Hi all,
How would one know if the CPS is bad? I pulled it out and it ohms out fine at 275ohms, but the cable sheath was in bad shape. I have ordered a new one, but now I am not too sure if that is my problem here. The car stall when it gets warm and is also hard to start when it's warm. It sounds like the symptoms of a bad CPS, but what else should I look for?
