My daughter called me with those dreaded words, "Dad, my motor is making a funny noise". 1988 744GLS B230F with 306,070 miles, just broke in. I thought at first it was the water pump because a little loose. Nope! After taking off all the belts and fan, the noise was still there so pull the top timing cover off and the tension pully was getting to warm after a couple mins so I thought I had it. Changed it. Nope! Stripped it down to the crank end to make sure all was good. No leaks. Oil pump drive turns freely. Put it back together and left off belts and fan. Noise still there but I am know thinking it is towards the rear by the distributor. Took the cap, rotor and dust cap off. No oil leaks and looks in good condition. The enging starts and runs fine but has that awful noise, sounds like a bad alternator bearing, but louder. Gets louder with increase in rpms. Would the bushing in the distributor make a lot of noise? I took oil fill cover off and did not notice increase in noise. Plenty of oil pressure. Could a cam bearing be going bad? Today, I read FAQS and nothing like it there.
Thanks in advance for help,
Ray
