740 Tire Size Options 700

Quick question for you all,

I just purchased a 1988 740 GLE (naturally aspirated, sedan, automatic). The car is in desperate need of new tires. Because of where I live, bad weather conditions like snow are not an issue when picking new tires. I am not new to the car world, so I know about all the factors when picking new tires - maintaining rolling radius, load limits, speed ratings, etc.

My question is simple. What is the widest tire that you all have successfully used on the 740? I am not trying to imply that a wider tire is necessarily better, I'm just curious to know what kind of widths fit.
