No boost 700 1990

After reading the faq about the transmission and such, I think the selenoid might be bad. The problem is that the overdrive does not engage at all. The trans runs fine, no odd noises or clunks when it shifts just no boost.

Any additional insight? Replacement does not sound too difficult but it would probably cost quite a bit to go through a shop.
