PLEASE update 960 thermostat removal FAQ

Whoever is maintaining it, please add a line in

saying that you need to soak the T-40 Torx bolts with rust penetrator for sometime before trying it. Also, there needs to be some mention of using a sealant after cleaning the upper housing and its mating surface.


I managed to strip the bolt yesterday. Took it to a mechanic as I was busy and didnt want to spend time on it. Even he didnt soak it with rust penetrator and BROKE the thermostat lower housing trying to loosen the bolt out. He said this was a common problem with Volvos! and I had to spend some time asking him why he didnt spray WD40 or something like that. Finally, had to pay $100 for an 1/2 hr job which I could have anyway done it myself (the thermostat lower housing costs $75 from the dealer). In the end, I landed saving neither time nor money.

And yeah, thanks for all the responses. My car doesnt overcool anymore :)
