my friends '88 240 DL stopped running yesterday-
She told me she could get it to start, but it would die right away. I first suspected the fuel pump relay (and indeed it was in bad shape, but functioning)but as it was still running for short periods the engine was still getting fuel.
Next I checked the AMM- and bingo, as soon as I unplugged it it revved real high, but it kept running. I have an old '85 240 DL sitting at my house, so I told here I would swap out AMM's until her new (used) one came in. I just got back from swapping them, and the car seems to not read the AMM at all. It is an aftermarket non-bosch unit (and I can't be sure that it is working correctly) but with the new AMM installed, there is no difference when it is plugged in or not. The idle is extremely high (sorry no tach) but when I shift into drive it usually stalls out, or sputters with no power (even with my foot on the gas). Is the 2nd AMM bad as well, or is there another problem? I checked the fuse panel, everything seemed fine.
thanks for the help
