Hard/No starting in damp conditions 200 1989

Recently had a minor overhaul on my station wagon. New fule pump and relay, installed the "good" 951 ECU unit. But there is a problem I've had even before I put these new parts in.

When the car starts, (i.e. when the weather is dry), it lights right up.

Whenever conditions are damp, during the early dawn, or a rainy day, I can just forget about it. A friend suggested spraying the wires with WD-40, which used to work. But I am not too keen on greasing up the wires every few weeks when I have this problem. And truth be told, it didn't work at all the other day. (When the day warmed up and dried out, the engine started right up!!!)

A few other things to note. There is a slight leak in the valve cover gasket, and the spark plug wires are a bit oiled up. (despite the WD-40 moments). A friend told me I could easily replace the gasket. True? Any tricks I should watch for? Once I replace the gasket, and stem the leaking oil, I'll try new wires.

Any suggestions for spark plug wires? Bougicord is the original supplier, but maybe someone out there has had better luck with other styles.

This appears to be the simple solution to the hard starting in damp conditions. Any other suggestions?

Thanks!
