Smart VOV to replace AC orifice tube

Who has used the "Smart VOV" after converting to R-134a in their 1992 or earlier 740, 760, 780 or 940? I'm trying to compare R-134a with fixed orifice (standard changeover) to R-134a with Smart VOV in a 700 series car designed for R-12.

Did the valve improve low speed cooling at all? Did it make any performace worse or cause problems?
