Acetone and vinyl door panels 140-160

Somewhat by accident I discovered that acetone is a fabulous cleaner to remove 30 year old dirt on door panels. A minor downside is that it dissolves the vinyl, too. Has anyone had any luck using for example diluted acetone or do you know of any other cleaners out there as effective on dirt but gentler on the vinyl?
