I had the trans oil changed and I am very disappointed! I brought 8 qts of Mobil 1 Synthetic, the Lexus LS 400 gasket, and a new filter.
The shop simply drained the pan, dropped it, cleaned it, put in new filter and poured in 4 qt of the expensive oil. Four was too much, so they drained a pint out and said it was close enough. I expected them to pump the old stuff out, measure how much was drained, then replace that. Charge was $90 for labor.
I did this because the car has 75K miles, and I do most of my miles towing a 1000 pound trailer. Having bought the car with no records at 70K, it seemed a good idea.
Now what do I do? It will be done by me from now on.
Drain the 3 1/2 qts and replace with regular ATF several times?
Replace the oil each time with the $7 Mobil 1 stuff?
Replace the old oil with ATF for several more changes, then do several more changes adding the Mobil 1?
What do you think?
