aftermarket Auxillary Tranny Cooler? 200

I live in Texas where the temp today was 103 F, I recently Flushed the tranny on my 89 244 and want to go a step further and install an auxillary cooler for tranny fluid.The aftermarket kits I've looked at are supplied with rubber hose.Can I just splice into the existing cooler lines and clamp on the rubber hoses for the auxillary cooler?I will be using the auxillary cooler in addition to the radiator set up.Just wasnt sure about the rubber hoses.Another less important question, Is there any way to monitor tranny fluid temp?Your input is much appreciated.
