Anyone own a 700/900 turbo with auto??? 700

if so, how would you rate the performance?? I'm asking since I'm considering getting one for commuting. I have never owned an auto car in years (all 5 speeds, and ususlly BMW's) but I wanna come back to a Volvo, but I want something quicker and with more features than the old 200's I drove back in University.

I choose the trubos since I want something a bit faster than the old lethergic 81 240 with SU carbs I had. Are the trubos recommended? I want something that's reliable, tough, easy to work on, easily affordable to buy without getting a loan (up to 7000-8000CAD) and safer then the old BMW's I'm accustomd to.
