cutting out at highway speeds 84 gl 2.3

I am having problems at highway speed. I can get up to about 70 as long as the road is flat or going down hill. As soon as the engine comes under load(uphill) the engine cuts out. It is only for a second but it happens repeatedly. This is the only time I experience this problem, making it hard for me to find the cause. Has anyone had this problem that could offer me some insight to my situation? thanks for your time, kc
