Fuel line on 87 240 200 1987

My 87 240 recently started dragging ( won't pick up speed). I've taken it to the shop and the mechanic says he "thinks" it may be a problem with the fuel line. Has anyone experienced this with theirs? A few weeks ago a mechanic told me that he replaced some wires to the fuel pump after the car wouldn't start up. I have also noticed fuel fumes inside the cab on occassion. Can anyone share some wisdom?
