Irregular Idle, sputtering acceleration, and a brand new fuel pump 700 1986

86 740 pushing 300K. She stopped on my wife last week. A brand new bosch fuel pump was put on, replacing a roadside breakdown fuel pump put on one year ago. Also recently replaced fuel pressure regulator. Started it up today and had irregular idle and badly sputtering acceleration. With a hard drive around the block, it seemed to work itself into shape. I am starting to think all these may be symptoms of another problem. Prepump has been checked at the fusebox.
