power steering 200 1990

Last year I decided to top off my power steering fluid on my 1990 240, so I purchased ATF fluid from my local auto parts store. The steering felt good before adding the fluid. Now, a year later, my steering feels strange occasionally. Like it tightens up. Is this a result of my adding this fluid or something else? I checked the belt and it feels tight. Should I flush the system?
