I've removed the tattered rubber and sisal matting from the front floorboards and "restored" them with fiberglass matting and por15 using their handy kit. I've also used some spray rubberized undercoating to seal up the underside. FOllowing the spiffy article regarding the restoration and soundproofing of a VW Wagon..humm can't find the link right now....
Anyway the project entailed the application of some pudding like roofing paste called kool-coat. I picked some of the wet/dry Ace Hardware equivalent (I didn't think I'd ever use 5 gallons of real koolcoat). I went out and smeared this pudding-like rubber/plastic compound all over the driver's side floorboard and firewall. I'm waiting for it to dry before I give it a real test, but so far I think it'll work out well - better than the dull thunk of fiberglass over swiss-cheese metal. It doesn't smell too bad (certainly not like the overwhelming odor of asphalt.
What I'd like to know is if anyone else has used this particular kind of stuff? The can negeleted to give me a drying time, but I assume it'll be 24 hours.
