When a 'Squelch' becomes a 'Clunk' - Broken Sway Bar End Link 200 1988

Hello Brickboard,

Further to my 'squelching front end' post a couple of months back...checked bushes and seemed ok then the 'squelch' became a 'clunk'. This forced a trip to trusted mechanic where I could get a few other things ticked off my list.

Anyway I'm told I have a broken sway bar link and just did a search of archives and found this to be almost as common as a fuel pump relay death...does this mean we need to carry spare sway bar links as well?

My question: the part is cheap enough ($22AUD second hand) but where I live there are more potholes and speedhumps than there is road. I don't drive too hard. Is this another 'Volvo Issue' and how dangerous is it to drive with that clunk?

Thanks for any advice/opinions.
