Hello and good evening.
I just purchased a new/old 93 245 with 113K from a very nice fellow.
In reviewing the sellers records I noticed that the crank seal was replaced a year ago. In late July, 2005, after the seller sold the car to me, being that it was way overdue, he felt obligated to have the timing belt replaced, but also had the valve cover gasket replaced along with the cam plug?. In addition, I guess so much oil had splattered over the top of the engine,(incidentally, much of which - out the fill neck), he was also billed for cleaning the engine. According to the invoice, the mechanic also cleaned the TPS, throttle body and cleaned fuel injectors.
The sellers records indicate that this outfit had been servicing this car for the last four or five years. Here's the rub. Doesn't the guy have an obligation to service the flame trap, particularly when you replace a crank seal. The seller had no knowledge of what a flame trap was or how or when it should be serviced. When I came to pick up the car, I replaced the rock hard flame trap before I left. The small vacuum line was similarly plugged.
If the doctor lets you bleed enough, by golly, you will undoubtedly need a transfusion.
What's your take on this? I want to relay your input back to the seller.
