Bad IAC? 200 1989

Hi,
For a while now I've had idle problems on my 1989 240 dl. It's a surging idle that seems to occur when the car is warmed up. I've cleaned the throttle body and the IAC. I suspect the IAC is bad. My question is do you really notice the vibrating of the IAC with your hand on it when it's running (I don't feel anything). Also what make them go bad? I've got the valve nice and clean with Q-tips and cleaner and moved it back and forth which it springs back . Thanks for any responses.
