valves need adjustment, best approach? 200 1984

my b23 valves need adjustment. this appears to be somewhat of a daunting task, since i'm used to american V8's valve lash setting procedure. i noticed IPD has a adjustment kit they rent (very pricey), is that the way to go, is there a better kit, or should i just take it to a shop?
