1988 760 Turbo Ignition timing way out - searching for missing ponies. 700 1988

Help! I've been searching for 60-80 missing ponies for the past month. Thought I had it nailed this time. Ignition timing is off by about 180 degrees at the crankshaft - figured the timing belt had slipped a few teeth. Pulled timing belt cover - crankshaft at TDC => Camshaft timing mark lines up => Distributor rotor points to cylinder No. 1 on the cap. Start engine, connect timing light, no timing mark visible. Balance holes on crankshaft pulley which are on the left at TDC are visible in the timing light on the right side.
Am searching forum archives and 700 FAQ next.
