Properly tuned, I don't see how you'd see any real difference between a
SU and a mikuni. I can see tiny improvements from using fuel injection,
just because you may see better atomization and better fuel metering if
you time the injection just prior to the intake valve opening, but these
are the sorts of differences that would require a huge sampling size to
notice. I can't imagine how, *IF* the mikunis are easy to tune to the
same level as SUs (or holleys, for that matter), you'd see any real
difference in fuel economy or performance.
What if the Mikuni gave better atomization and better fuel metering? What gives you reason to think that it doesn't? It's a newer design, more efficient, most likely designed to flow air better than an old SU, and etc. Look at the intake for the Mikunis, basically an air horn, exactly how it should be. The Mikuni will make more power per amount of gas used, and thus more total power, and better gas efficiency. No?
