Exhaust Hits / best spacer material? 700 1990

My 740 has always made a big clunk when I went over a bump at +30mph(very loud on the highway), I thought at first it was something in the trunk doing it, so I emptied everything and it still made the sound. I then thought it could be a coil or maybe the spare tire jumping around. Finally I discovered it was the exhaust pipes hiting the metal parts of the car, I can see where it's gotten shiny from all the rubbing and hitting.

What type of material should I wedge in between the pipe and the car?

Any Ideas?

thanks,
