defective ac/heater function selector (non climate control) 900 1994

I just bought a used 1994 940 wagon. When I got it, the ac and heating system was working great. Now it appears that the "function selector" (the switch to change from defrost to floor, to vents, etc. suddenly stopped working. AC and heat still function but I can't direct where I want the flow of air. Anyone have any suggestions how to troubleshoot and resolve this?
