vibration when starting from dead stop please read!!! 700

i have a 1989 740 GL. whenever i start to accelerate (reverse or drive) i get a stronge vibration but only untill the car is moving, above 10-20 mph. the engine is running rough, could this be it? I have also been told that it could be a worn bushing somewhere in the drivetrain? or could it be transmission? although the trans does shift very smoothly.
Does anyone have any idea of what/where/how i can test for vibration?
any other ideas?
thanks in advance
-sal
