Early 240 parts fit my 1975, not so sure about a 74 model.
Your PS has me puzzled. A neutral safety switch keeps you from starting the car unless it is in park or neutral. Mine doesn't work and I like it that way. It has nothing to do with puting the car in park so I will stay in place and not move. That is a pin in the tranny which may be broken or out of alignment.
