240 Exhaust 1987

Two 240 (not a Turbo) exhaust system questions. Like others, I have heat shields that rattle like crazy. Over the years I have tried wire and muffler goop to try and secure the heat shields. Since I don't park in tall grass or over leaves, is there a reason not to just remove them? What about any effect on the carpeting, etc? Second, I have had to replace one or the other pipe or muffler every couple of years. The front muffler needs to be replaced before the next State inspection. IPD advertises a single rear Turbo muffler Sport system to replace the original configuration (costs about the same). Any experience with this Sport system in terms of exhaust tone, life of exhaust system, noticeable increase in power? Thanks.
