Hello Barry:

Lots of folks just remove those heat shields...

As for exhaust, I did piecemeal replacements with aftermarket crap for years, then I discovered that the factory systems have a lifetime guarantee and cost less than twice what the 3 year aftermarket junk costs.

Check your local dealer-- mine came to $237 Canadian for the cat-back system-- it fit beautifully-- you gotta love genuine Volvo parts!
