That sounds like what I was trying to say but didn't say very well.....

You can have the spark signal in the primary of the ignition system (and therefore also in the ECU), but due to some other system failure (such as the power stage) you won't actually get a high voltage spark.

But, if no spark signal in the primary, then no spark and no fuel.

I think we're saying the same thing.
