patching fuel line

Not for my volvos, but the dad's '85 bimmer.... but general interest question so it's ok I hope.

fuel lines are metal, copper I guess.

Tiny rust spot with leak.

What's best way to patch? Cut and run a piece of fuel line with a couple clamps? Any other words of wisdom?
