Removal of air conditioning compressor 200

Is it possible to reconfigure the belts on a 240 ('92 245) so as to allow removal of the AC compressor and hoses? The obvious problem is that the power steering pump is run off of the AC compressor pulley....

Are there any other issues involved? I vaguely recall hearing that the AC was involved in the windshield defrost, but since my AC hasn't worked in ages, I'm convinced it couldn't have a significant impact.

Related question: Were 240's available from the factory without AC? They must have had a different belt arrangement than mine...

Thanks in advance.
