no spark 200

My brother's '86 240DL wagon suddenly stopped running yesterday when we were driving it because of an ignition failure. All the fuses are in good shape and the wiring seems sound. The cap, rotor, spark plugs, spark plug wires, and ignition coil are brand new. There is voltage to the ignition coil, the blue wire to the control unit, and to the plug to the pick-up coil. Is it reasonable to believe that the failure is in the pick-up coil? I want to make sure that there is a pretty good chance that that is the problem before he buys a new one at over $100. Is there anyway to test the pick-up coil? How do I replace it? thank you.
