Overdrive question 200

I have had the relay go out before and it is usually complete. Now I am having my '89 240 going in and out of OD quickly so much that I have to take it out of overdrive just to drive. Can this be the relay again? If so how often do you have to change the #+%@$ things? Could it be the ground wire? Thanks for the help.
