Using backing plate on '93 setup 200

I'm not really clear on what you are saying, but here is the order that I would do, trying to make it clear:

Take the plastic frame that the OEM speaker sits in now, drill out the rivets. Then put the new speaker into the frame, and drill 4 new holes in the frame.

Now put the frame and speaker on the door panel. Drill 4 new holes in the door panel.

Make metal reinforcing ring with correct hole pattern, and with hole size smaller than the screws.

Behind the door panel, place the reinforcing metal ring. Now from the front of the door panel, put 4 screws through the: 1. speaker 2. plastic frame 3. fiber door panel 4. metal ring

The screws will be anchored into the reinforcing ring.

Now snap the grille over the speaker.

Also note that there are 2 different hex grilles that will fit over the frames, and one has more of a dome in it for clearance over the speaker.
