Oil Pressure switch? 200 1987

Hello august forum!

My 87 245 DL has an orphaned black wire coming off the alternator.

Right above that on the lower part of the motor block is a flat lead attached to what appears to be a sensor, but no wire attached.

Someone told me that this sensor is the oil pressure indicator. Is that so? and if so, should I hook my orphaned black wire to it? If I try, will something bad happen?

Thanks in advance!
