Hello everyone,
This is my first post, so take it easy on me if I ask a dumb question.
I am about to inherit a '85 245 from a friend who wants it out of his driveway. It has a b230 and an aw70 automatic with 219,000 miles on it. I have two questions, one is technical and the other is purely opinion.
#1. The car has an issue with shifting. Once in drive, the car hesitates when it shifts and then when it does, it shifts rather hard (not like break neck, but more than any other auto I've ever driven) I've read posts that say the problem is a little rubber ball that I should not attempt to replace, and I've also read that it could be that the fluid + filters need to replaced. I am not a total novice when it comes to car work. I've changed oil, replaced brake pads, replaced alternators, and the like. What I want to figure out is if it is possible for me to tackle this transmission on my own or is it way over my head.
#2. This '85 245 came from the factory with a roof rack, but somewhere along the way, it was removed and hole plugs were installed. The question is should I try to find a roof rack for this car or should I leave it as is. I've seen pictures of other 245's with and without and I can't decide which way I want to go. What is your opinion? And does anyone know of a place where one could be found?
#3. I know I said two, but I thought of this while I was typing. Does anyone know of a good junk yard (containing volvos) within a couple hours drive of Atlanta, GA?
Thanks for your help,
DP
