wiring harness compatibility and no - start condition 700 1987

Has anyone tried installing a harness from an 88 740 GLE (b230) into an 87 740 GLE? The harness in my 87 is now crumbling terribly and I have a no - start condition. For what it's worth I have low fuel at the FPR, both fuel pumps work and pump when jumpered, the relay clicks (tried an extra, it clicked too), I swapped out the radio suppression relay, no difference, I have spark, I have fuel in the tank, injectors click. If I jumper the fuel pumps should I be able to build up enough pressure to have the FPR bypass fuel? Car started and drove once after monkeying with some wires ( lots of them), but then wouldn't restart after sitting for a few minutes, it started the next morning but hasn't started since ( 1 week ago). Engine grounds tested good, starter cranks well.

Any thoughts?
