Directional/Brights Arm Fell Apart! 200 1988

I noticed some weird movement in the stick when turning the brights on in the last few weeks. Last week I was driving and pushed down on the stick to take a turn. The stick went limp and some parts rattled out of the steering column. A White plastic bit and what looks like a flat spring type device fell out. I have driven around making hand signals for turns for the last week. Is it me or are these now totally ignored? Any idea how to get the viagra back into my directional/brights lever?
