overheating - why 200

Hi,

From one day to the other the radiator temperature indicator enters the red zone after only 5-10 minutes of driving

I assume that the water pump or the thermostat have stopped working or could it be some thing else ?

How do I test whether the pump is working (preferably without removing the pump) ?

I have observed the following
- the temperature indicator drops as the engine cools down (suppose this is a sign of the indicator working correctly)
- the belts driving the pump are in good condition and tightned correctly
- all fuses are okay
- both radiator and hoses connected to the engine were changed to brand new less than 2 years ago
- cooling fluid in the expansion tank is between min and max
- when the indicator is in the red zone both hoses between engine and radiator are very hot, but the cooler itself is cold (except in bottom). I suppose this is a sign of no flow.
- there are no leaks

Thank you in advance,

- malnitz
