Twin turbo 4cyl?! 700

Has anybody seen or heard of a twin-turbo red block? A mechanic I met swears he had a customer - a little old lady no less - with a twin-turbo 4cyl wagon, he thought it was a 700 or 900 series. He described two small turbos feeding into AND out of an intercooler on the passenger side, then over the top of the head much the way the non-intercooled 240s were plumbed. I'm sure he's mistaken - perhaps it was a euro-spec 960 turbo - but I figured I'd double-check here. For what it's worth, he thought the car was imported from Germany.
