FUEL GAUGE WORKS IN REVERSE 140-160

I recently replaced my fuel sending unit because the fuel gauge was dead. At first everything seemed to work just fine – good working gas gauge. But, once I went through a tank of gas and filled it up again the indicator did not move. As I began to burn more gas off, I noticed that the gauge was now working in reverse. As the gas level want down the needle began to move toward full side. Any idea on what may be causing this?
