Sorting out the 240 - Intermittent overdrive (man.) 200 1981

I'm trying to sort out my 240 for the big trip home from NY to MI. Other than a headlight issue, the only thing wrong with it is that the OD doesn't like to work correctly. I used to think it came out at 3500rpm (maybe for safety or something) but recently it has started coming out of overdrive at around 3000. This leads me to believe there is a loose connection, or soemthing technically wrong with the car.

Symptoms:

1. Overdrive works in 4th gear, up to ~3000rpm, where it then jumps out and back into regular 4th.
2. The Overdrive light is 'tied' to the overdrive, i.e. when the the trans is in overdrive, the green '5' OD light is on, whenever the light is off, the OD is off.

3. I can not put the car into overdrive above ~3000rpm.

4. At slower speeds, the overdrive stays on forever, unless i'm on a really bumpy road.

(sounds like a loose connection eh? any places to start?
