Back to Running Like It Was Before 120-130

Thanks John.
I confirmed a good level of oil in the dashpots, and that the fuel line, floats, are in great shape. I also re-checked the plug wires with my tester under heavy throttle. The Crane Electronic Ignition is still doing a great job there.

I have a glass in-line fuel filter in front of the pump and it has a new element (put in last month). The in-line fuel pressure regulator (after the pump, but before the carbs) is in good working order set at 1.5-2.0. (same as before the troubles this morning.

it is possible that the fuel pump may be going. The mounting flange looks a little bent. I plan to pull it and put in new gaskets and a new pump which I'll install and see if it makes a difference.

However...

Now here's the weird part. I had ordered a new distributor cap and I picked it up today. I popped it on the car this afternoon and the car was back to running good again. I should have probably given it a start before I replaced this part, but I was rushed to be sure that if fit before the parts place closed. Anyway, I took it for a drive and it "popped" a few times but otherwise ran like it di yesterday. Now maybe the new cap fixed it, but I'm not sure. I really suspect something with the carbs.

I also can't get over how well the car starts up. Up to Saturday, and even Sunday (after reassembly) the car took a lot of cranking and a full choke to get going. Today after I started it once, shut it down, opened up the carb bowls, checked the floats, and then put it all back togther. I gave the ignition a half turn reaching through the window and the car fired up immediately.

Dunno. I'm gonna take her to work tomorrow and see what happens. If it runs like junk in the morning, I'll let you guys know.

BTW: are there any trustworth small volvo shops around St. Louis? The Amazon specialist at Brentwood Volvo busted his back and is off work for quite a while. There's a place down the road from me called "auto-evaluators." Despite them owning the only other Amazon I've seen in St. Louis, they give me a bad vibe any time I go in there. My regular mechanic doesn't want to touch it, so I'm at a loss to find a professional opinion on these sorts of things.

You mean to tell me that Volvo makes cars that are *NOT* Wagons?!?
