replacing blower motor with a S-10 unit: several questions 444-544

I saw a discussion a while back about using a S-10 blower in a PV and have a couple questions for anyone who might have done it. Does the squirrel cage work too or just the motor? How about the mounting plate, should I think about using the original plate or fabricating something new? From what I've seen it looks like the Chev unit is basically a 1 speed unit that is controlled with a resistor block. Does that mean that I might be able to use the original 445 resistor switch? The S-10 has a rubber tube from the motor to the plenum that I would assume is for cooling. If so, how necessary is it? Much thanks for any advise.
