Engine cooling fan 900

Looking for some answers again. My '93 945 turbo is doing something that I believe is not right. On cold start up in the morning lately, I noticed when the car has been idling for about 1 min. the electric engine cooling fan has been turning on. To make things a little more interesting, on start up in the afternoon when the sun has been shining, it doesn't happen . I find this interesting, the way I understand things the fan shouldn't come on while the car is trying to warm itself up. Any explanations/ideas would be appreciated.
The car starts fine and seems to be running ok. Thanks in advance.
