Single-Filter Air Box Options? 120-130

1. Sure, if there is room for it. The straight-through part should get air
from in front of the radiator or down below where the air is cool. The side
branch needs a tube running down by your exhaust downpipes so it pulls in
warm air. In very cold weather this greatly enhances prompt driveability on
startup.

2. No, it's fine. And if you look, you can probably find cheaper filters.
Bolts in the intake ports is a real problem. Do whatever it takes to
make SURE they stay where they belong. I had to pull a head and a valve
a few months back because of that.

3. The heat shield(s) go between the carb and the manifold and they MUST
be there to prevent vapor lock from boiling in the float bowls. You need
two individual ones for HIF6 or Stromberg carbs and the one that fits
between both carbs for HS6 carbs. It may be the thing you are calling
a "heat shield" is really a breather connection (used on 2-bolt HS6 carbs).
If so, throw it away and hook the hose to the connection in the center back
of the airbox.

4. I used the extra heavy reinforced green file folder material on both
sides of the aircleaner box, with washer-head bolts. If you dampen the
underside of the washer head, it will kinda stick to the folder material
when it dries and make it harder for the bolts to come unscrewed. If you have
nuts on the other side, I'd recommend using helicoils in the carbs instead.
5/16" - 18 UNC is the size.
