142 situation(long, and I have much more to ramble about on it too, but no time for now) 140-160

The 142 is down for a short nap, that will be followed by another period of use, followed by another nap for a longer bit of time...

Brakes:
I took off the rear brake lines and bias valves today so we can be sure of what lines and fittings to order for the custom lines. I'll be going stainless from where the bias valve connected to the hardline coming from the master cylinder, which will connect to the hardline on the rear axle.

We finally got the ball rolling on this project because my right rear brake pad has gone away, and the last few days that I was driving it, nasty metal grinding/scraping sounds were coming from that corner. Not really like the pad wear indicators, but just the rotor being shaved off. There's a stipe around the face of the rotor that is really torn up and there are shavings on the inside of the new virgos that I have mounted. Definitely needs to be taken care of.

So, anyway, I'm in the process of ordering some new PBR Ultimate(Ceramic) rear pads and some Balo rear discs from www.taylorautomotive.com(AMAZING prices). I'll probably toss in some Castrol GT LMA fluid again, until I go with some newer front pads(currently has Bendix deluxes I think which are the same as PBR Deluxes I think I've heard?), and plan on heading to the track more often, which won't be for a long time because it needs so much work.

Gas Leaks:
You know how I've complained about gas mileage lately? And the smell? Well, with the car jacked up for the brake work, I can clearly see wetness around the gas tank, not a good sign at all. That, and around the drain plug that'd down there. I guess my rusty gas tank has deteriorated so far that now it won't hold gas. CRAP! Time for a fuel cell, aye? Well, hopefully I won't be driving this car around too much longer after I get the brakes fixed, I need to get something a bit more daily driver friendly so I can start working on this car anyway.

I don't know what else I was going to say, other than some stuff about the engine/carbs, and then maybe the suspension if I want to lay out all my plans for the car, well, not all the plans, but the basics.

ANYWHO, for those of you that don't know, which is probably all of you, I withdrew from Oregon State University winter term last year from their Mechanical Engineering program. I've never needed to study, nor ever liked to study or do work outside of the classroom. I'm a very bright person and have always been able to gather what I need to excel in the classroom. Sophomore year of the pre-ME program was starting to require me to sit and study multiple hours a day from a book of formulas and crap like that. Not my style, nor to my enjoyment. Sure no one likes it, but it's just worse for me. I wasn't capable of making myself sit and be bored to death with that. Call it ADD or whatever, I don't care, not for me.

So, I'm not in school right now. Took up working at Baskin Robbins again because it was a job I could get and the pay is very nice and I love working there again. Recently, when I called Eurocar in downtown Portland about getting these custom brake lines made, I was told that they couldn't do it because they're very busy right now. I jokingly asked if they needed help(I'd kept in touch with them about a job possibilty before), and they said yes. Low and behold a couple weeks later, I had dropped $800 on tools, and started working there. I'm at the end of my third week(only 10 days worked so far), and am waiting to hear what he has to say about my two week trial period. I'm still not sure how much I like the job though... But, I guess every job has bad days, right?! So currently I'm working both. In a year or so, I plan to return to school either part-time or full-time to finish some of what I started with a business degree of sorts.

Past time for bed, I've been cheating myself of sleep this week, PEACE!

Ps. Hopefully soon I'll get some pictures of the new wheel/tire combo. I need to do some fender rolling/cutting in the back because the left rear rubs when I go over big bumps, or have an engine block in the trunk. Thankfully that's out of there again. An adjustable panhard rod will have to be made sometime in the future as well to center out that rear axle when I lower it...
