244 Turbo intermitent 'no start' 200 1983

Hi all,

Well, it's done it again (last time was back in late May), our old turbo turns over but doesn't start. Last time everything suddenly cycled up while checking the current and resistance at the fuel pump relay/plug.

Like last time, I don't hear the pumps cycle when I first turn the key, so I've already replaced the pump relay with a new part (from FPC Groton). I've also cleaned the contacts in the fuse block and put in new fuses (5, 7, 12, and 13 IIRC). Still no sound from the pumps.

I also tried to decipher the wiring diagram in the Bentley manual--looks like the pump relay should be getting a couple of ground signals, one from the red/white wire from the coil, and one from the over-boost switch by the brake pedal. The red wire has good battery voltage, while the red/blue wire gets +12v when the key is "on." Yellow/red runs to the pumps, while bllue runs to the CPR. etc.

I'm thinking of "jumping" the relay (red to yellow/red and blue) to see if it starts. Any problems that that might cause? I'm also thinking of "jumping" ground wires to the relay in place of the black and/or white/red wires to see if either or both are the problem. If it turns out to be the over-boost switch, that's an easy fix, but if it's the wire from the coil, I'm lost on what could cause that . . . any BTDT's on that?

FWIW, since the last time I got the car to start, it ran great . . . until this AM.

Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance for any advice, sage or otherwise!
