Two things:
Do not apply too much pressure or you will break the black plastic disk. I destroyed two (but had two sapres, so lucky me).
The little wire clip is best attacked from two sides. Pull one side ouot a bit first, then pull the other. Don;t let it get away from you - it's small and will fly a ways if you let it.
When I first did this, I put a small 1/8" spacer between the black disk and the chrome handle to keep it open. I then created a little hooked wire tool that I used to snage the end of the wire clip and yanked it out. It was not a whlol lot of fun, so I looked into other tools.
A MUCH better approach is to pick up a couple of putty knives. The simple narrow 1" inch variety (to pry the disk and handle open) and one of those weird putty knives - has one sharp triangular side that flares out, but has a semi-circular notch cut out of the other side. I foreget the actual name, but you'll know one when you see it. *THAT* is the perfect tool for the task. I got one for $1.00 in the dollar bins at the local ace hardware. The triangular notch is perfect for prying the wire clip out.
